On January 8, 2025, Ptl. Joseph Sandstrom conducted a “Stop The Bleed” training at OEM. This program, offered through NJOHSP, provided free training to representatives of places of worship, teaching them how to properly use bleeding control kits, including tourniquets. As part of the initiative, each place of worship will also receive a free bleeding control kit to enhance emergency preparedness.

Deborah Dopkin knows the life-saving value of these skills. On May 30, 2015, she survived a catastrophic accident at Madison and 5th St. Her life was saved thanks to Ptl. Sandstrom’s swift actions and use of tourniquets to stop her bleeding.

In collaboration with the Lakewood Police Department, Lakewood Community Coalition, and NJOHSP, this initiative demonstrates a continued commitment to community safety and preparedness.

The training was supported by Out To Lunch, 264 Cedar Bridge Ave, Lakewood, which generously donated delicious wraps for the event.
