School Resource Officers

Our dedicated School Resource Officers, also known as SRO’s, play an important role in fostering a safe and secure learning environment for Lakewood students, faculty, and staff. With a strong commitment to building positive relationships within our school community, our SRO’s serve as a liaison between The Lakewood Police Department and the Lakewood Schools. The SRO’s are assigned to the unit full time and also execute special events such as Shop with a Cop, Christmas Gift Give Back, Torch Run for Special Olympics, and their largest event of the year The Lakewood Police Youth Academy.

Equipped with training in youth development, conflict resolution, active shooter, and threat assessments, our SRO’s are positioned to address a wide range of concerns. This provides an invaluable support to students facing challenges both in and out of the school environment.

In addition to maintaining a visible presence throughout our wide range of school campuses to deter potential threats, our SRO’s actively engage in educational initiatives. This includes but is not limited to, delivering presentations on topics like drug prevention, cyber safety, stranger danger, career paths, leadership, and emergency preparedness. By promoting a culture of trust, respect, and accountability, our SRO’s help empowers students to make positive choices and navigate complex social issues responsibly.

Above all, our SRO’s embody our school’s commitment to the well-being and success of every student. With a focus on proactive intervention and community-oriented policing, our SRO’s’ work collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to aide in creating a safe and supportive learning environment where all individuals can thrive.
