Media Production
The Lakewood Police Department’s Media Production Unit plays an essential role in managing and processing audio and video recordings to meet legal and operational requirements. This highly specialized unit ensures that all media requests are handled with professionalism, accuracy, and adherence to strict timelines.
Responsibilities of the Media Production Unit:
Body-Worn Camera (BWC) and In-Car Camera Video: The unit is responsible for processing all BWC and in-car camera footage required for discovery. Each video must undergo thorough review and redaction to protect the privacy of individuals and comply with legal standards. This includes obscuring sensitive information, such as faces, license plates, and other identifiable details, before release.
Radio Transmissions and Phone Recordings: The unit handles all radio transmissions and phone recordings, ensuring they are properly cataloged, reviewed, and prepared for release when requested.
911 Audio Recordings: The team processes 911 audio recordings, carefully reviewing each file to ensure that sensitive information is appropriately handled and redacted before public or legal release.
Dedicated Civilian Team: The Media Production Unit is comprised of four civilian employees who manage a substantial workload. The volume of audio and video requests is immense, requiring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to legal and privacy guidelines.
Meeting Strict Timelines: The unit operates under strict deadlines to fulfill discovery requests and public inquiries, often juggling numerous time-sensitive tasks. Despite these challenges, the team remains committed to maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all media productions.
