On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Lakewood Community Coalition held its 2nd quarterly meeting at the historic Strand Theater. This impactful gathering brought together faith leaders, community partners, first responders, and local organizations for meaningful discussions focused on Expungement, Clemency, and community resources.

Sgt. Peter LaRosa of the Lakewood Police Department provided a brief overview of the Expungement process, which allows individuals to have certain criminal records sealed or erased, offering a second chance at employment, housing, and more.

The keynote address was delivered by Leigh Kelsey O’Donnell, Special Senior Counsel in the Office of Governor Phil Murphy. She explained the two main types of clemency: Pardons, which forgive past criminal convictions, and Commutations, which reduce the length of a person’s sentence. She also highlighted the importance of Executive Order No. 362, signed by the Governor on June 19, 2024, which broadens access to clemency for eligible individuals across New Jersey.

Coalition Co-Chairs Captain Steve Allaire and Dr. Cori Scotti led the session, facilitated a Q&A, and shared grant opportunities to support community programs.
The Lakewood Community Resource Unit, Sgt. Michael Conrad, Patrolman Jason Yahr, Kevin Bell, Jeffrey Emmons, and Joseph Soriano shared updates and announced future quarterly events designed to strengthen community trust and engagement.

Special thanks to D/Sgt. Jeannette for coordinating logistics, Director Daniel Brower of the Information Technology Bureau for capturing the event photography, and Patrick Sample for Traffic Safety. Appreciation also goes to the Strand Theater for hosting in their iconic venue, to Urban Coalhouse (Rt. 70, Brick) and OTL Kosher Food for the generous catering, and to BMI for donating door prizes.
