On January 5th at approximately 6:30pm, Fire Department and Police Personnel were dispatched to a Woodlake Manor townhouse that was reportedly on fire.

Although the fire was quickly extinguished, a 28 year old mother and her infant child were forced to jump from a second floor window after alerting a nearby neighbor.

33 year old Rey Carpinteyro was exiting his parked car when he heard a woman screaming to “catch her baby”. Without hesitation Carpinteyro ran over to the burning home and caught the infant as the mother tossed him from a second story window.

The Good Samaritan then ran the child to another neighboring home before running back to assist the mother. She too jumped from the second story window. Although her fall was broken by Carpinteyro she did suffer multiple lacerations to her legs.

Both mother and son were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The American Red Cross responded to assist at least one other family who’s home was affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lakewood Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit.
