In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Lakewood Police would like to highlight Detective Sergeant Nathan Reyes.  D/Sgt. Reyes, born and raised in Lakewood, began his career in 2004 when he was assigned to the Patrol Division.  Throughout D/Sgt. Reyes’ career he served as a member of the SWAT Team, and Sniper Team and is a Crisis Hostage Negotiator.

In 2014 D/Sgt. Reyes was assigned to the Department’s Detective Bureau where he was crucially utilized to investigate numerous cases which involved Spanish-speaking victims.  In 2018 D/Sgt. Was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he continued his endeavor in the Detective Bureau and is currently in command of the Department’s Street Crimes Unit.

D/Sgt. Reyes stated, “I take great pride in assisting my Hispanic community and giving them a sense of hope, especially those who fall victim to senseless crimes.”  D/Sgt. Reyes is proud of his Puerto Rican roots and credits his grandparents for teaching him the Spanish language growing up as a kid.

D/Sgt. Reyes is also a US Army Veteran who served 8 years in the Army Reserves as a Military Police Officer.   D/Sgt. Reyes deployed to Iraq (Operation Enduring Freedom), Israel (Iron Dome Exercise), and Italy (Force Protection).
