SRO Jerome Cohen’s retirement is a sad day for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was known to be a kind and compassionate school resource officer.

SRO Cohen served our country with dignity and respect, then became a corrections officer in August of 1998 and a Lakewood Police Officer in August of 2001.

He was one of six officers (#274,275, 276, 277, 278, 279)that graduated class of #77 at the Ocean County Police Academy and became a School Resource Officer shortly thereafter and remained in the schools throughout his career.

All who had the opportunity to have worked with him had the same great lasting impression of Jerome,  a “gentle giant”. Always a friendly smile, a respectable charm and a courteous personality.

The children and teachers at the schools loved Officer Cohen, and  lovingly expressed themselves by giving him a warm send off and a gracious goodbye.

His brothers and sisters as well as the community of Lakewood will miss him and we thank our brother Cohen for his service.
