Lakewood Middle School held their 6th Grade GREAT Graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. The Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) program is an evidence-based and effective gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum.

The Program led by Lakewood Middle School Resource Officers,Jose Marrero, Stephen Nickens, and OCPO Detective Taryn Schwartz is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior.  Students received a special treat today as Officer Marrero and Officer Nickens rolled in on the MRAP and BearCat; Military vehicles . Students received a tour of the vehicles and hands on demonstrations of various armory and tools. Lt. Leroy Marshall, SRO’s Marrero, and Nickens and Detective Schwartz did an amazing job by supporting the “students” and the “school family”.
