On February 27, 2024, during the Lakewood Police Coalition Meeting, Lakewood Police Chief Gregory H. Meyer was presented with an award by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and David Leonardis for his exceptional work on behalf of the coalition. The commendation also acknowledged LPD Administration members Captain Steve Allaire, D/Sgt. Jeannette Shimonovich, and Sgt. Peter LaRosa, as well as Cori Scotti from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish of Lakewood. The LPD Community Resource/Quality of Life team members – Sgt. Kenneth Burdge, CRO Jason Yahr, CRO Kevin Bell, Ptl. Jeffrey Emmons, and Ptl. Joseph Soriano – were also recognized for their efforts. Additionally, School Resource Officer Sgt. Stephanie Mahone, SRO Michael Delvalle, and SRO Daniel Merrill were commended for their valuable contributions. The award was presented by the NJ Bias Crimes Officers Association to acknowledge the dedication of these individuals.

Chief Meyer’s dedication to fostering collaboration and unity within the community has been instrumental in advancing the coalition’s mission of promoting safety and inclusivity for all residents of Lakewood. Under his leadership, the coalition has made significant strides in addressing bias-related incidents and promoting diversity awareness throughout the township.

The ceremony commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a prayer by Shrage Pinter. Accepting the award, Chief Meyer expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of continued partnership between law enforcement and community stakeholders in combating bias and prejudice. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to upholding the principles of fairness, equality, and justice for all community members.

The NJ Bias Crimes Officers Association commended Chief Meyer for his proactive approach to addressing bias incidents and his efforts to build trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the diverse communities they serve. The association highlighted Chief Meyer’s leadership as an example of the positive impact of collaboration and mutual respect.

In response to receiving the award, Chief Meyer pledged to continue working closely with the coalition and community leaders to strengthen relationships, promote understanding, and ensure that Lakewood remains a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.

As the Lakewood Police Coalition continues its important work, Chief Meyer’s dedication and leadership will undoubtedly serve as a guiding light, inspiring others to join in the effort to create a safer and more harmonious community for all.
