Eluding

On May 14, 2022 Officers were conducting surveillance in the area of 230 1st street when they observed what appeared to be suspicious activity in an around 2 separate vehicles.  As one of the vehicles traveled out of the area, a further investigation revealed that a fictitious plate was attached to it.   ITs alleged that when an Officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle eluded his attempt to stop.  The driver, identified as Deivy Ricart-Castro was subsequently charged with the following:
Violation of N.J.S.A. Title 39:3-10 (Unlicensed Driver),  violation of N.J.S.A. Title 39:4-97 (Careless Driving),  violation of N.J.S.A. Title 39:4-96 (Reckless Driving), violation of N.J.S.A. Title 39:3-33A (Fictitious Plates) and  violation of N.J.S.A. Title 39:3-75 (Window Tint).Mr. Ricart-Castro was also charged with Eluding in the 3rd Degree, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29:2B and the Disorderly Persons Offense of Obstruction, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1A.
The investigation was handled by Officer Robert Meyer Jr, and assisted by Officers Michael Grant and Connor Woods.
Wanted Person
On Saturday May 13th, 2022, Officers were investigating an incident where a Pedro Ortiz-Velazquez was named as a potential suspect.  Through further investigation it was determined that Ortiz-Velazquez had active outstanding warrants for his arrest.  On May 14th, Officers were able  locate Ortiz-Velazquez where they placed in under arrest without incident.
The arrest was made by Officers Joseph Mandelbaum and Caitlyn Kicki.
DUI
On May 11, 2022, Officers were dispatched to the area of River Avenue and Central Ave for a report of an intoxicated driver.  The call was received via 911 and the caller provided a vehicle description.  Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area of James Street.  Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Audelio Diaz-Lopez (41 years old, from Lakewood). Diaz-Lopez was subsequently charged with the following:  DWI (39:4-50), Possession of CDS (2C:35-10A), Reckless driving (39:4-96), Driving while suspended (2C:40-26), Maintenance of lamps (39:3-66), Open alcoholic beverage in vehicle (39:4-51).
 
The investigation was handled by Officers Lorenzo Camacho, Nicholas Romeo and Eric Stefanelli.
Theft:

On May 9th, 2022 an Officer responded to Harrogate Retirement Community for a report of a theft.  The victim reported that there was jewelry missing from her apartment.  An investigation was initiated and as a result on May 12th,  Rashere S. Galloway (35 years old from Lakewood) was arrested and subsequently charged with the following:      

Theft 2C:20-2B(2)(A),  and 2 counts of Fencing 2C:20-7.1B(1)
Part of the victim’s property was recovered.
The initial investigation was handled by Officer Anthony  Caraballo.  The follow-up investigation was conducted by Detective Donnelly.

Bias Criminal Mischief:

On Monday, May 16, 2022, at approximately 7pm, an Officer took a report regarding an incident that occurred in the area of Cedar Bridge Avenue and New Hampshire Avenue.  The victim alleges that while traveling on Cedarbridge Avenue she became involved in an altercation with another motorist.  As both motorists were stopped in traffic its alleged that the driver of the other vehicle began to yell and use profanity towards her including use racial slurs.  Prior to fleeing the area, the driver then threw an object towards her, striking her vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the identification of a possible suspect.

The case is currently under investigation by Detective Michael Dennis.

Street Crimes Unit

During the past week, the Street Crimes Unit comprised of Det/Sgt Reyes and Detectives Richardson and Letts has made 3 arrests for various narcotics related offenses.
