(photo gallery) On Saturday, May 19th the Lakewood Elks Lodge 1432 kicked off their “First Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner” in honor of the men and women who protect and serve the community of Lakewood.

Exalted Ruler Joe Barina said, “He wanted to give back to the Lakewood Officers and show them how much the Lakewood Elks appreciates everything they do for the community” he also said, “All the members at the lodge are one big happy family, and they also wanted to give back to the Officers and their families, so they can enjoy an annual appreciation dinner with entertainment in a friendly atmosphere”, “I am very happy with the positive turn out”.

Chief Gregory H. Meyer presented a few Officers with well deserved award recognition for their “above and beyond” courageous acts, on or off duty, with the assistance of Sgt. Robert Shimonovich (awards chairman).

  • Life Saving Award – Officer Stephen Meyer – (80 year old male choking).
  • Gallantry Star Award – Sgt. R. Humeny, Off. S. Ward, Off. D. Dowden, Off. J. Macerino – (apprehended party with a gun).
  • Life Saving Award – Officer M. Ruiz – (engulfed fire).
  • Exceptional Service – Officer M. Mckee, Officer D. Merrill, Officer J. Soriano , Officer S. Campell – (engulfed fire).

Exalted Ruler Joe Barina also took the platform with his wife/lodge secretary Robbin, and presented Lakewood’s Ret. Captain Michael Dennis (former Exalted Ruler of lodge 1432), with a Lifetime Achievement Award. At the conclusion of Ret. Captain Michael Dennis’s speech, he received a warm standing ovation applaud from his family and friends for his extraordinary accomplishment. He is truly admired and respected by all!
